In order to maintain the community’s all-important job base, St. Nicks has blazed trails since the early 1980s by supporting a business-friendly climate and creating the East Williamsburg Valley Industrial Development Corporation (EWVIDCO), which is dedicated to attracting and retaining businesses.

St. Nicks and EWVIDCO coordinate a NY State Empire Zone, two industrial business zones containing over 750 businesses, and nurture small businesses through the Brooklyn Business Center. EWVIDCO’s success has enabled the organization to nearly double its service area.

Through the new NYC Industrial Business Zone (IBZ) program, EWVIDCO is responsible for meeting the business service needs of over 300 industrial businesses in the Greenpoint/Williamsburg Industrial Business Zone and Ombudsman Zone and over 700 industrial businesses in the North Brooklyn Industrial Business Zone and Ombudsman Zone.

With more than 15,000 employees, these businesses depend on EWVIDCO for free, quick and reliable assistance with tax credits and incentives, financing, real estate and relocation assistance, energy and green issues, workforce needs and advocacy on behalf of them as individual firms and the industrial community as a whole.

In 2007 EWVIDCO staff served 237 individual businesses a total of 732 times.  Business clients looked to EWVIDCO for a wide variety of services; the most frequently requested services were tax planning support, real estate assistance and incentive program assistance.  EWVIDCO provided assistance to firms anywhere between 1 and 16 times, with an average number of 3 requests for service per firm.
